Sugar lump…

My fondness for Sir Alan Sugar is starting to wane. Not only did he pick a pretty blonde with a sob story over the mighty Badger on BBC2’s The Apprentice, but just so boring in ‘real life’. His Room 101 (BBC2, 10pm) choices were unimaginative and not at all the creative wondrousness he encourages (nay, insists on) in his show…

Among others there were Call Centres, Men Who Wear Bad Toupees, Nonsensical Adverts and The American Language. Snore…

Of the American language, SAS says he hates the way they’ve butchered our language. But, Sir Alan, I must protest: the American language is far more like original English than the English we speak today in the UK…

    Did you know that the words ‘England’ and ‘English’ derive from the Angles, a Germanic tribe in something-or-other BC. Somewhat ironic, given that the World Cup is just around the corner…

    Plus they made a considered effort to change parts of the language in order to gain cultural as well as political independence from us after the War of…, which seems fair enough really…
